Job Description:
Under limited general direction, the Environmental Engineer / Environmental Specialist will support and lead a wide variety of environmental compliance efforts and projects by performing assignments requiring application of advanced principles, theories, and concepts.
Essential Functions:
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, including preparation of permit applications, compliance recordkeeping and reporting, and related interaction with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies.
- Provides oversight/guidance for environmental compliance programs including air pollution compliance, waste management, environmental monitoring, remedial/corrective action efforts, stormwatermanagement, and oil spill prevention/SPCC.
- Supports development and implementation of company and site-specific management system programs, initiatives, and procedures.
- Participates in, supports, and/or leads investigations of environmental releases and incidents to develop effective corrective actions. Participates in internal and external environmental audits, including report preparation with effective corrective actions and tracking to closure.
- Evaluates new chemicals; planned new or modified manufacturing or R&D facilities, equipment, tooling, or processes; and procedures with related process hazard analyses to ensure they can be implemented in compliance with environmental regulations and Company and site-specific policies and procedures.
- Develops and conducts environmental training sessions for compliance with regulations, programs, initiatives, and procedures.
- The work environment may require a combination of indoor and outdoor activity in varying weather conditions.
- Frequently moves equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Persons in this position may work around variable noise levels or with fumes or airborne particles, hazardous chemicals, etc. requiring the use of personal protective equipment.
- Ability to drive 10% between various locations within the Company facility or between locations.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level.
Qualifications:
- Requires a Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering, environmental science, or a related discipline and at least 6 years of directly related experience.
- Graduate degree and a minimum of 4 years of related experience, in lieu of a degree, minimun of 10 years of related experience.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Extensive experience with air pollution compliance in heavy industrial or chemical sector, including Title V permitting, federal regulations (NSPS, NESHAP/MACT, ODS, RMP), and Arkansas DEQ regulations.
- Experience / knowledge of RCRA permitting, hazardous and solid waste management, wastewater/stormwater compliance, remediation, SPCC, and EPCRA/SARA.
- Advanced degree in an appropriate environmental discipline.
- Energetic materials experience.
- Supervisory/management experience.
- Experience / knowledge of Process Safety Management, Process Hazard Analysis, and/or Explosives Safety regulations (e.g., DoD 4145.26M).
