Position: Dispatcher, Public Safety - Union 5 - $24.18/hr.
This position will be posted from January 16, 2026 to January 30, 2026 by 4:00 pm.
Must be able to pass a drug and alcohol test and a background check.
DRPA and PATCO are subject to federal law, under which
marijuana continues to be illegal.
Must be able to pass a proficiency examination that addresses all of the required knowledge.

Position Purpose
Under the direction of the Corporal, Sergeant, or the Lieutenant of Police, or the administrative superior in charge of the shift, the Dispatcher is responsible for sending, receiving, recording and disseminating information using a variety of police communications equipment (e.g. police radio, intercom, telephone, computer and cameras, among other equipment), and coordinating the overall Public Safety advisory and response system. The Dispatcher is responsible for making decisions based on established Public Safety Division policies and procedures.

The Authority will adhere to all applicable laws and regulations in assessing an employee's ability to carry out or otherwise meet the job requirements set forth herein in a satisfactory manner.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Utilizes computer-oriented equipment, including Computer Aided Dispatch systems (CAD), to receive record, monitor, summarize and/or transmit the data relating to an emergency.Receives, relays, and/or transmits routine and emergency calls to police, fire, and other public safety agencies and units. Monitors police and 911 calls as required.Maintains a log of radio transmissions, telephone calls, and other pertinent information and facts and inputs the information into a computer.Makes entries, inquiries, cancellations, modifications of the various data bases of the NCIC/SCIC. Sends and receives messages via NJLETS/NLETS. Receives and answers inquiries of the NCIC, SCIC, NJLETS, NLETS, and CJIS system for other agencies.Maintains incident reports of complaints, and prepares and types a variety of reports.Operates NCIC computer terminal to retrieve license registration information and criminal records.Receives and transmits messages via the NCIC, SCIC, NJLETS, NLETS systems per established guidelines.Acts as receptionist to in-person callers and assists them in contacting the appropriate Authority personnel in a timely manner.Search digital media archives and locate media of evidential value for incidents. Prepare and log such evidence in accordance with evidence control policies.Trains assigned relief operators on the Dispatcher’s duties.Deals with varied emergency situations and must expeditiously give assistance to callers frequently in a state of panic. The position holder is the one who makes the primary decision about whom to contact.The position requires the individual to work a variety of shifts on a rotating basis, holidays and overtime as necessary.Performs other related duties as required and assigned.This position is required to successfully complete state and federal mandated programs and refresher courses and also required to participate in reoccurring in-service training programs as ordered by the Police Chief.Assists in maintaining a safe and secure work environment by participating in required training, recognizing and reporting hazards and suspicious activity, and using all required personal protective equipment.Performs other related duties as required and assigned.This is a safety sensitive position and is subject to all provisions of the DRPA/PATCO’S Substance Abuse Testing and Control Policy including random drug testing and periodic physical testing requirements.
