The Infection Prevention Manager functions in an administrative and leadership role, implementing the Virtua Infection Prevention Plan at the local level and creating an effective hospital-wide infection control program. Responsibilities include enforcement of Standard Precautions, hospital‑acquired infection surveillance, environmental monitoring, outbreak management, regulatory compliance, and educational programs for hospital employees. The Manager serves as a consultant to physicians, staff, patients, families, and the community, overseeing data collection for submission to the New Jersey Department of Health & Senior Services, CDC, county health departments, and other mandatory reporting agencies.
LeadershipRole
- Develops and manages the local Infection Control Program in cooperation with the System Infection Control Committee.
- Works closely with the Virtua Infection Control Officer to conduct annual risk assessments and gap analyses to prioritize and implement infection control initiatives locally and across the system.
- Collaborates with local management and leadership to ensure systematic implementation of policies, procedures, and improvement initiatives, including educational programs for hospital leaders, physicians, and staff.
- Serves as a local content expert, interpreting current federal, state, and local regulations and recommending prevention and control strategies. Acts as liaison between the local campus and county departments of health, including TJC, CDC, OSHA, and the U.S. Department of Health & Senior Services.
- Members of the local emergency management team; may serve as an incident command center leader during infection outbreaks internally or within the local community.
- Supports local and system quality improvement initiatives and communicates hospital concerns with the Director of Quality Management.
- Implements performance improvement activities based on data analyses, annual risk assessment, and regulatory requirements.
- Serves as a team member or consultant to Six Sigma, Kaizen, and other improvement teams.
- Provides education for all staff levels and community members.
- Monitors Standard and Isolation Precautions, hospital‑acquired infection surveillance, environmental monitoring, outbreak management, and regulatory compliance.
- Uses Excel, other software, and web‑based programs to collect data and generate analytical reports.
- Supervises and conducts data collection for submission to state and federal reporting agencies.
- Coordinated with Occupational Health, Environmental Services, Engineering, Construction, and Facilities staff to assure construction safety and completion of hospital ICRA.
- At least 2 years of experience in Infection Prevention.
- Current membership in APIC (Association of Professionals in Infection Control) preferred.
- Strong leadership skills and demonstrated ability in infection prevention concepts and practices.
Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Medical Technology, Biology, or Public Health with education in Infection Prevention; post‑secondary medical education also considered.
Training/Certifications/Licensure- If RN, must have a valid New Jersey RN license or obtain one within 3 months of hire.
