Position Overview

Shift Leader – Residential Program Counselor

Are you someone who thrives in a structured environment and finds purpose in helping others reclaim their independence? Volunteers of America Delaware Valley is seeking a compassionate, reliable, and organized Shift Leader to support our community-based residential program for individuals with behavioral health and developmental disabilities.

This role involves leading daily operations during your shift, mentoring residents, supporting clinical service plans, and maintaining a safe, welcoming, and recovery-focused facility.

Responsibilities
  • Provide daily support and structure in a therapeutic group home setting
  • Lead shift operations, mentor staff, and monitor safety and facility conditions
  • Guide residents through orientation, recovery planning, and independent living goals
  • Facilitate 1-on-1 and group sessions to support personal development
  • Coordinate meals, medications, outings, appointments, and safety procedures
  • Respond to crisis situations with skill and calmness
  • Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • 3+ years in human services and 6 months with VOA preferred
  • Experience working with mental health populations
  • Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and conflict de-escalation abilities
  • Valid driver’s license & ability to meet VOA driving standards
