Senior Project Manager – American Water
Position Summary:
Oversee technology-related projects, including software migrations and system integrations, ensuring alignment with business objectives, schedules, and quality standards.
- Provide direction and assign project/delivery responsibilities to the PM resource pool.
- Implement technology projects, software migrations, and system integrations, mapping required IT functionalities and managing implementations according to schedule.
- Serve as direct point of contact between Business, Business Relationship Manager, Business Analysts, Development, and Delivery teams.
- Assemble cross‑functional project plans and monitor daily work efforts.
- Identify resource needs and appropriately escalated functional, quality, and timeline issues.
- Enforce project management methodologies and standards.
- Drive accountability for PM resources and act as a subject‑matter expert.
- Empower associates to exceed role expectations.
- Define and oversee effective methodologies, tools, and processes in both waterfall and agile.
- Assist in implementing IT projects, software migrations, and client system integrations.
- Act as liaison with business/process owners and other T&I groups to coordinate delivery.
- Identify and document client/contracted deliverables and communicate requirements.
- Report progress and issues to management.
- Collaborate with Change Management and Communications resources for successful rollout and adoption.
- Utilize available IT tools, ensuring they meet standards.
- Ensure business value realization and optimization from plans through financial awareness.
- Monitor progress to meet business demands.
- Build relationships with internal and external customers.
- Document operational processes related to technology tools.
- Oversee technical specifications for business application modifications.
- Participate in process improvement efforts.
- Manage budgets and cost‑center spending, including external vendor spends.
- Develop departmental plans and prioritize demands.
- Lead engagement initiatives, goal setting, and innovation management.
- Manage staff activities across various levels.
- Execute performance roll‑up.
- Expert knowledge of software development life cycles and techniques (waterfall and agile).
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills across organizational levels.
- Strong organizational and detail orientation to manage multiple project phases.
- Customer‑oriented approach to managing communications and issues.
- Ability to operate effectively in a matrixed organizational structure.
- Strong leadership, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.

- Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Computer Science, Information Systems or equivalent.
- Preferred certifications: PMP/PMI‑ACP/Scrum Master/Agile Mythology.
- 10+ years total experience in Information Technology/Information Systems.
- 5+ years experience in an IT Project Management role.
- Experience with PMI framework and various project management methodologies (e.g., agile/scrum).
- PMI Certification.
- Agile Analysis Certification.
- Scrum Master Certification.
Primarily in an office environment.
Travel Requirements- As necessary, up to 15%.
