Our Mission
Securing the materials to build our future. Materials underpin the technologies that will define tomorrow—from artificial intelligence and advanced electronics to energy and national defense. Principal Mineral builds the systems, capabilities, and markets that strengthen domestic industrial capacity and secure the critical materials supply chain for generations to come.
Principal Mineral is creating an integrated global manufacturing platform by acquiring industry-leading businesses, including Camden Copper, Isola Group, and Conductive Composites.
Principal Mineral is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to join the Engineering Team delivering plant modernization and capital improvement projects. This is an onsite role located in Camden, South Carolina
. You’ll apply deep technical expertise and hands-on practical experience to ensure electrical system designs, specifications, vendor deliverables, and field execution plans are technically sound, safe, and cost-effective.
What You’ll Do
As the Electrical Engineer
, you will lead the design, specification, procurement support, installation oversight, and commissioning of electrical equipment and systems—from early concept through final startup. You’ll also design, troubleshoot, and continuously optimize plant electrical infrastructure, including PLCs, motors, drives, and power distribution equipment. Working closely with cross-functional partners, you’ll help deliver projects that improve reliability, safety, and performance across the plant.
Core Responsibilities
Design and Review: Create and review electrical engineering deliverables, including one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, medium-voltage (MV) and low-voltage (LV) power distribution transformers, switch gear, and motor control centers (MCCs).
Engineering Calculations: Perform short-circuit calculations, load projections, cable sizing, voltage drop analysis, busbar design, and protection coordination studies.
Automation and Controls: Program, update, and troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, and sensor networks to support safe, efficient, and reliable plant operations.
Equipment Specification: Specify, select, and evaluate industrial electrical equipment and control systems, including panels, motors, drives, transformers, and associated controls, based on operational needs and safety requirements.
Project and Cost Management: Support capital projects by managing scope, cost estimates, material lists, schedules, and vendor/contractor performance against budget targets.
Code Compliance: Review drawings and specifications to ensure electrical systems meet all applicable requirements, including the National Electrical Code (NEC), NFPA 70E, OSHA, and relevant international standards such as IEEE and UL.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with mechanical and process engineers, contractors, EPC teams, and regulatory stakeholders to execute plant improvement and capital projects successfully.
Technical Documentation: Develop and maintain electrical drawings, specifications, and project documentation.
Budget and Timeline Management: Monitor project cost and schedule performance to ensure alignment with capital expenditure plans.
Commissioning and Safety Reviews: Conduct site walkdowns, resolve RFIs and non-conformance reports (NCRs), support Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSRs), and help ensure safe energization and transition of new installations into active operations.
Maintenance and Reliability: Lead preventive maintenance planning and continuous improvement for electrical machinery and critical systems, including DC rectifiers, transformers, switch gear, and emergency backup systems to minimize downtime.
