Refrigeration technician supports and maintains the industrial ammonia refrigeration and other site utility systems of a state‑of‑the‑art turkey processing plant. The position reports to the refrigeration supervisor with a primary 12‑hour, 2‑shift (2‑3‑2‑2‑3) schedule on straight nights, with flexibility to work early, late, overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Specific Duties / Responsibilities- Employ experience and knowledge in the operation, testing, and documentation of ammonia refrigeration and other utility systems (e.g., air compressors, boiler).
- Apply working knowledge to safely install, start up, troubleshoot, and repair refrigeration and monitor other utility equipment operation.
- Perform refrigeration PM / PSM program tasks, including logs and documentation.
- Oversee and coordinate resources for PM and repairs of refrigeration systems and utility equipment.
- Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations and codes; maintain a safe work environment.
- Assist supervisor/co‑workers with repairs and share refrigeration knowledge.
- Work with minimal supervision, suggesting continuous improvement for refrigeration and other utility systems.
- Other duties as assigned by Manager/Supervisor.
- GED (required);
Associate’s degree (preferred). - Refrigeration coursework/certificate/training (preferred).
- Minimum 2 years in refrigeration equipment & systems or related field.
- Working knowledge of industrial ammonia refrigeration systems.
- Understanding of ammonia refrigeration regulations and systems.
- Detail‑oriented; able to work in a fast‑paced environment.
- Team player with strong communication & interpersonal skills.
- Lift/move up to 40 lbs.; occasionally 50 lbs.
- Stand, squat, climb and work from heights up to 12 hrs/shift.
- Operate in hot, cold, wet environment (35‑40 °C/100 °F).
- Safely work with low & high voltage equipment.
- English (verbal & written).
