Job Summary

The Park Ranger position at Rockin' River Ranch State Park assists in the operation of the park and serves as the park volunteer coordinator. Duties include, but are not limited to, volunteer management, maintenance, custodial, interpretive visitor services, collecting entrance fees and gift‑shop sales using a point‑of‑sales/reservation system, completing administrative duties, working with volunteers and other groups & organizations, assisting with social media, coordinating special events, purchasing maintenance supplies, and conducting inventory.

Grade: 16 •
Salary: $17.50 – $19.00 per hour
• Must be able to work evenings, weekends and holidays.
• Housing is not included.

Job Duties
  • Visitor contact: tend visitor center, greet visitors, assign tasks to volunteers, collect fees, gift‑shop sales, permit fees, distribute literature, answer phones, handle two‑way radio communication and data entry. Recruit, train, and assist volunteers in the office/gift shop with administrative duties.
  • Custodial maintenance of grounds/facilities: daily cleaning of public restrooms, visitor center and gift shop; stock restrooms with supplies; clean picnic tables; paint buildings, picnic tables, trash and recycling barrels, signs; collect trash from barrels throughout the park and haul to dumpster; landscaping, trim trees and shrubs; invasive species management, weed whacking, mowing, transplant; irrigate trees and shrubs; apply fertilizer/herbicides; rake gravel;

    maintain demonstration garden.
  • Volunteer coordination: recruit, schedule, train, and oversee volunteers; utilize volunteer database; work with volunteer groups.
  • Maintenance and repairs: facilities, historic structures and equipment; irrigation lines; minor electrical repairs, doors, signs, locks, fences, gates, picnic tables; vehicles and tools; air‑conditioning units, water heaters, office equipment; maintain irrigation lines and water well pump.
  • Administration: maintain timesheets, vehicle and equipment logs, and supply inventories; record attendance and revenue; make revenue deposits; manage ledgers; submit reimbursement requests; complete volunteer records/log.
  • Interpretation: provide public interpretation and at special events; lead guided hikes; conduct research; oversee garden activities and youth programming; liaise with local schools; promote events and workshops.
  • Park security: patrol park, enforce rules, issue warnings, assist with first‑aid, handle radio communications related to law enforcement or emergencies, complete incident reports.
