Position Overview
Skills for Life (SFL) Teacher – temporary, 0.90 FTE, effective September 8, 2026 to June 30, 2027. Salary $60,015 – $109,520 (proportionate to FTE). Apply by 3:00 p.m. PST Monday, June 22, 2026.
Qualifications- Diploma or Degree in Special Education with coursework in Intellectual Disabilities, Autism, Math Remediation, Exceptional Children, Behaviour Interventions, and Assessment and Evaluation, and training with Level B assessment tools.
- Minimum two years classroom teaching experience at the appropriate level.
- Extensive knowledge and practice in modification and adaptation strategies for various levels of student performance and in designing remediation techniques for students with complex learning profiles.
- Experience working with students in an alternate setting.
- Demonstrated skills in time management, record keeping, interpersonal, verbal and written communication, conflict resolution, and collaboration.
- Philosophy that supports integration and inclusion for students with special needs.
- Ability to advocate for students with inclusive needs.
- Ability to collaboratively develop, implement, and evaluate an IEP in consultation with classroom teachers, parents, students, district personnel, and community professionals.
- Understanding of computer technology and experience with students with Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC).
- Leadership experience working as a team member with students, staff, educational assistants, and parents.
- Ability to design and implement an effective life skills and academic program for secondary‑aged children who meet the criteria for the Skills for Life (SFL) Program.
- Proven skills in meeting diverse behavioural and emotional needs of secondary‑aged children and ability to take a leadership role in scheduling and training staff involved in the program.
- Understanding of trauma‑informed practice.
- Understanding of assessment for learning and ability to demonstrate its application in designing differentiated instructional strategies.
- Ability to demonstrate how current practices align with SD72 learning beliefs.
- Inquiry‑based and collaborative approach to BC Curriculum delivery.
- Knowledge of Social/Emotional Learning and BC Mental Health Framework.
- Incorporation of First People’s Principles of Learning.
- Commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equity.
- Support growth and development of individual learners through differentiated learning and varied assessment strategies.
- Collaboration with fellow teachers to plan, develop, and implement exceptional learning experiences for each student.
- Commitment and adherence to workplace policies, procedures, and practices.
- Commitment to standards of conduct: respectful, professional, team‑oriented, collaborative, ethical, honest, trustworthy.
- Commitment to understand and implement Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action and the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act.
