Position: Temporary 0.6 FTE Elementary School Counsellor

School District 72 serves over 5,600 students in 18 schools across a large geographic area located on the traditional territories of the Liǧʷiɫdaxʷ, Klahoose, K'ómoks, and χʷɛmaɬkʷu First Nations. The district operates in Campbell River and Quadra Island, extending north to Sayward and south to Oyster River, and includes the outer islands of Read, Cortes, and Quadra.

Position: Elementary School Counsellor (temporary, 0.6 FTE)

Term of Employment: September 8 2026 – November 30 2026

Salary: $60,015 – $109,520 (proportionate to FTE)

About the Role

The successful candidate will support classroom teachers in understanding and planning for the social, emotional, and behavioural needs of students in their classrooms and will demonstrate a strong commitment to the emotional and social development of adolescents.

Qualifications and Experience
  • A master’s degree in counseling with at least a 300‑hour supervised practicum at an appropriate level.
  • Successful teaching experience at the elementary school level.
  • Solid understanding of the etiology of substance abuse and proven knowledge of effective prevention strategies.
  • Experience providing individual and group counseling services to students.
  • Knowledge of classroom management techniques.
  • Skill in supporting students with social and learning difficulties.
  • Effective communication and collaboration with students, teachers, parents, administrators, and community agencies.
  • Proficiency with related computer software and technology.
  • Commitment to professional development and growth.
