About the RoleThe Responsible Adult (RA) reports to the school administrator and the Director of Inclusive Education. The role involves collaboration with the student support team to provide general care, supervision, and support to students, including those with diverse needs.
Casual Responsible Adults work on an on‑call basis while school is in session and may be called to any worksite Monday to Friday as needed.
Responsibilities- Provides general supervision to students on and off school property, before and after school, during recess, lunch supervision, and occasional field trips.
- Supports students in the classroom with special needs one-on-one and/or in small groups.
- Develops relationships with students, offering encouragement, advice, and assistance with life skills and preparation.
- Facilitates and encourages positive social interactions with students, staff, and community members.
- Assists students with activities promoting physical, mental, and social well‑being.
- Supports student transitions at the start and end of the school day.
- Maintains healthy and safe work practices in line with School District Guidelines.
- Protects and respects confidentiality of student information.
- Participates in staff meetings as requested.
- Performs additional duties as assigned by the principal or designate.
- Grade 12 diploma and completion of Responsible Adult Course, or at least 20 hours of training in child development, guidance, health and safety, or nutrition.
- Level 1 First Aid Certificate is an asset.
- Minimum 1 year of recent experience working with youth and children, or equivalent training.
- Evidenced strong communication skills (verbal, written, electronic) with tact, discretion, and diplomacy.
- Team player capable of working collaboratively with colleagues, parents, and children.
- Judgement to select appropriate actions within established methods and procedures.
- Strong problem‑solving and organizational skills with ability to work independently.
- Proactive and self‑directed, fostering trust and respect with students.
- Knowledge of district child abuse protocol and reporting procedures.
- Flexible and adaptable to changing circumstances.
- Willingness to participate in professional development provided by the district.
- Computer literacy; willingness to learn technology; working knowledge of Microsoft 365.
