Strathcona Regional District has an opening for a temporary full-time Wildfire Risk Reduction Coordinator. Reporting to the Manager, Emergency Services, this position assists in wildfire risk reduction and public education efforts. The Wildfire Risk Reduction Coordinator will ensure that Fire Smart activities are supported, developed, and implemented in accordance with Provincial guidelines and the Regional District's direction. This position is also responsible for providing alternating 24/7 on-call coverage.
The Regional District intends to apply annually to the Community Resiliency Investment (CRI) Fire Smart Community and Funding Supports grant to fund this position on an ongoing basis. As long as funding is available, the Regional District will maintain this position.
REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (or equivalent combination)- Applicants will possess a post-secondary degree in environmental studies, geography, forestry, or a related field, plus one to three years of prior job-related experience.
- Local Fire Smart Representative certification.
- Professional experience in the field of education, Fire Smart, wildfire management, fire behaviour and suppression, or fire prevention is preferred.
- Some knowledge of fire and public safety education, fire service operation and emergency management is required.

- Driver’s Abstract
- Possession of a valid BC Class 5 driver's license
This position is 35 hours per week, with an hourly rate of $47.58 to $54.53 (2025 rates), plus an additional 16% instead of benefits and vacation.
