Visual Language Interpreter at School District 72

Support deaf and hard of hearing students as a Visual Language Interpreter with School District 72 in Campbell River. Utilize American Sign Language for effective classroom communication and collaboration.

This permanent position involves 5.25 hours daily of interpreting lessons, assemblies, and school activities for students needing signing support. You'll work closely under the guidance of educators to help students reach their Individualized Education Plans (IEP) goals while maintaining confidentiality and participating in staff meetings.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide ASL interpretation in diverse classroom settings

• Adapt signing communication levels for student needs

• Support school activities such as classes and field trips

• Attend staff meetings and collaborate with educational teams

• Uphold student confidentiality in all interactions

Requirements:

• Completion of a two-year ASL Interpretation program

• Minimum one year of relevant experience

• Fluent in American Sign Language (Level 4+)

• Membership with Westcoast Association of Visual Language Interpreters

• Class 5 BC Driver's License
