We are the people who give possibilities purpose BD is one of the largest global medical technology companies in the world. Advancing the world of health™ is our Purpose, and it’s no small feat. It takes the imagination and passion of all of us—from design and engineering to the manufacturing and marketing of our billions of Med Tech products per year—to look at the impossible and find transformative solutions that turn dreams into possibilities.
ResponsibilitiesPartner with cross-functional teams to ensure equipment, processes, and products are designed, delivered, and operated to the highest standards of quality, efficiency, safety, and compliance:
Product Design:
Ensure products are designed for efficient manufacturing, target cost of goods (COGS), and required quality standards. Unit Quality:
Ensure equipment design and manufacturing comply with regulatory requirements and industry standards. Production:
Design equipment that supports efficient manufacturing, is easy to operate and maintain, and consistently achieves production targets. Maintenance & Engineering:
Maximize equipment uptime through reliable, maintainable designs and adherence to preventive maintenance practices. Procurement & Suppliers:
Ensure components meet quality and safety standards while remaining cost-effective and readily available. Plant Quality:
Monitor equipment performance to ensure products consistently meet quality and regulatory requirements. Program Management:
Deliver projects on time, within budget, and aligned with business requirements. Finance:
Support capital planning, forecasting, budgeting, and reporting activities. Process & Equipment Design and Development Lead the design and development of assembly, packaging, automation, inspection, and manufacturing equipment, including mechanical, electrical, controls, robotics, vision, and software systems. Convert product, process, quality, and capacity requirements into scalable equipment and automation solutions. Create, review, and maintain User Requirement Specifications (URS) aligned with manufacturing, quality, regulatory, safety, and business needs.
Evaluate multiple design concepts by balancing risk, reliability, scalability, standardization, cost, and lifecycle impact. Develop innovative automation and mechanical system concepts while incorporating industry trends and company standards. Create, review, and approve equipment layouts, system architectures, 3D models, and engineering drawings. Perform engineering analyses and simulations to validate and optimize designs. Lead design reviews, risk assessments, machine safety evaluations, and FMEA activities.
Establish and verify relationships between Key Process Input Variables (KPIVs) and Key Process Output Variables (KPOVs). Support Proof of Concept (POC) and Design of Experiments (DOE) activities to define process capability and operating windows. Optimize equipment for manufacturability, ergonomics, maintainability, reliability, and overall cost of ownership. Leverage production data to drive new equipment designs and continuous improvement initiatives. Provide technical and financial input for capital investment justifications and business cases.
Supplier & Capital Project Leadership Lead equipment suppliers, system integrators, and external vendors throughout the project lifecycle. Partner with Procurement on supplier selection, RFQs, technical evaluations, and risk assessments. Define and manage supplier scope, costs, timelines, deliverables, and technical requirements. Review and approve supplier-generated designs, schematics, software architecture, and safety systems. Plan, witness, and approve Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT). Drive corrective actions, engineering changes, and…
