Job Summary:

The Intermediate Clerk General performs a range of skilled clerical accounting tasks and administrative duties directly related to the Department of Finance. Responsibilities include maintaining financial accounts and records, daily banking procedures, and clerical support for customer service, accounts payable, and receivable. This position also serves as administrative support and relief for the Clerk Senior Payroll and provides generalized support to other roles within the Department of Finance.

Required Knowledge, Skills and

Qualifications:
  • Successful completion of a post-secondary Administrative/Office Technology program or equivalent related program;
  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) certification*;
  • Minimum three (3) years relevant work experience in a computerized finance department;
  • Minimum two (2) years relevant work experience in a computerized environment using an automated payroll software system such as Microsoft Dynamics, ADP, Ceridian or People Soft;
  • High level of knowledge in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook) required;
  • Knowledge of payroll and payroll tax laws;
  • Knowledge of audits, income tax forms, sick pay, retirement plans, etc.;
  • Ability to understand and follow payroll procedures and payroll related forms;
  • Ability to manage the processing of wages, salaries and other forms of compensation for both bargaining and non-bargaining employees;
  • Effective communication with peers, supervisors and the general public in a tactful, diplomatic and professional manner;
  • Ability to respond to a variety of situations with a calm and steady demeanor;
  • Ability to handle confidential information in an ethical and professional manner;
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge of collective agreements, government legislation and employment standards;
  • Excellent oral and written English communication skills;
  • Ability to demonstrate sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritizing and execution skills;
Shift, Hours of work:

The hours of work will be from 8:30am to 4:30pm, Monday to Friday, with the possibility of extended working hours, depending on the needs of the department.

Wage and salary:

This position is permanent, full-time and is represented by CUPE Local 2162 with a rate of pay of $33.44 per hour.
