Assistant Administrator 'Na̱mgis First Nation _ Alert Bay, BC (Onsite)

About

The Role

Trimark People Solutions is honoured to support 'Na̱mg̱is First Nation in recruiting an Assistant Administrator - a key governance and administrative leadership role that strengthens operations, departmental coordination, and culturally grounded service delivery.

The Nation invites committed, values‑driven administrative professionals to consider this meaningful opportunity. Reporting to the Senior Administrator and serving on the senior management team, the Assistant Administrator ensures that governance and administrative functions operate with clarity, accountability, and respect for 'Na̱mg̱is teachings and traditions.

Rooted in the community's history and expectations, the role supports transparent governance, responsive administration, and respectful engagement with Elders, hereditary leaders, staff, and community members. The successful candidate will bring professionalism, humility, and cultural awareness to their work, contributing to strong, connected, and thriving generations.

Reporting to and working closely with the Senior Administrator, the Assistant Administrator provides direct oversight to the Administration support team and acts as a liaison to senior management, external partners, and government agencies. The role ensures smooth communication flows, efficient operations, and adherence to governance requirements.

'Na̱mg̱is Administration oversees a broad range of departments - including Child and Family Services, Education, Natural Resources, Communications, Lands and Infrastructure, Accounting, and Health - and serves as the administrative liaison to the 'Na̱mg̱is Business Development Corporation. Within this structure, the Assistant Administrator coordinates departmental activities, supports Directors in achieving work plan goals, and ensures compliance with NFN policies and reporting requirements.

As the Nation strengthens its administrative capacity, the long‑term goal is to have two Assistant Administrators. One is currently in place, and this recruitment will identify the second. Once both roles are filled, each Assistant Administrator will be assigned a group of portfolios to ensure balanced oversight across the organization. Both will collaborate closely with Directors, report progress through the annual work plan process, and adapt portfolio assignments as organizational needs evolve.

This role is ideal for an organized, relationship‑oriented leader who thrives in a dynamic environment and is committed to supporting the long‑term well‑being and sustainability of a vibrant Indigenous government.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the Senior Administrator in developing, implementing, and monitoring the Nation's annual work plan, ensuring departmental contributions are coordinated, accurate, and aligned with strategic priorities.
  • Work directly with Directors to advance departmental goals and objectives, ensuring updates, deliverables, and performance indicators are submitted in a timely and accountable manner.
  • Ensure departmental, program, and project compliance with 'Namgis policies, procedures, records management standards, and all related reporting and governance requirements.
  • Oversee the preparation, submission, and monitoring of operating budgets, identifying efficiencies, addressing variances, and ensuring fiscal responsibility across assigned portfolios.
  • Provide leadership, direction, and performance management to Administration support teams, fostering a respectful, high‑performing, and service‑oriented work environment.
  • Act as the Senior Administrator's designate during absences or as required, ensuring continuity of operations, decision‑making, and communication with Council, staff,…
