Mohawk College’s Marshall School of Skilled Trades & Apprenticeship is seeking a licensed Powerline Technician (434A) to join our Electrical team in a dual-role position focused on teaching and curriculum development with an expertise in all aspects of the theory, hands-on practical and field elements of the trade. This opportunity supports the development and launching of the new Powerline Technician 2 Year Diploma program
.

Reporting to the Associate Dean, Electrical, Transportation & Innovation, the successful candidate will provide academic leadership, technical expertise and pedagogical curriculum innovation
.

This hybrid role involves:

  • Review and critique of proposed Program of Study.
  • Designing curriculum that aligns with Skilled Trades Ontario Curriculum Training Standard as well as with specific industry requirements, particularly Distribution.
  • Incorporating engaging strategies for the creation and delivery of theory, hands-on practical and field labwork.
  • Supporting student learning using both traditional and emerging technologies.
  • What you’ll be doing:

    Phase 1; POS Review and Curriculum Development

  • Review and critique program of study (POS), design and develop course outlines and curriculum modules for the Powerline Technician 2 Year Diploma Program.
  • Collaborate with instructional design specialists and faculty to incorporate adult learning principles and Universal Design for Learning (UDL).
  • Ensure curriculum aligns with Skilled Trades Ontario Electrical Trades Curriculum 434A as well as unique industry requirements.
  • Provide input into classroom, lab and field (pole yard) design and construction.
  • Recommend relevant tools, technology, training aids and instructional resources that reflect current industry usage and safety standards.
  • Phase 2;
    Instructional Duties

  • Upon confirmation of program launch date, teach theory, hands-on practical and field applications within the Powerline Technician 2 Year Diploma Program.
  • Utilize a student-centered, inclusive teaching approach.
  • Create and deliver learning activities and evaluations that align with industry and academic standards.
  • Use the college’s eLearning system to support in-person, hybrid, and online delivery models.
  • What you’ll bring to the role:

  • Certificate of Qualification as a Powerline Technician 434A.
  • Certificate of Apprenticeship or equivalent credential.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ recent experience in the powerline technician field, including work with distribution systems
    .
  • Experience in teaching and/or curriculum design, especially in adult education or postsecondary/apprenticeship settings, is preferred.
  • Familiarity with UDL principles and the use of educational technology is preferred.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and project management skills.
  • Learner-centred approach and to assist in the development and application of alternate delivery methods.
  • Demonstrated commitment and understanding of human rights, equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility.
  • The ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse students, employees, and communities.
