Basic FunctionTo support student success by providing guidance on academic planning, degree requirements, and university resources, while fostering student development and retention. Supervise and train professional advisors. Reports to Director, University Advising or designated supervisor.
Examples of Duties- Work with students to develop attainable educational and academic goals and provides input on related majors, minors and future educational and career options.
- Provide comprehensive information about academic requirements, university policies, degree progress, and program options to help students make informed decisions.
- Proactively monitor student progress, identify potential obstacles to timely graduation, and develop strategies to support their academic success.
- Connect students with relevant campus resources, support services, and faculty who can assist with individual needs.
- Assist with probation, reinstatement and dismissal processes.
- Create and maintain updated student records and notes.
- Assist with advising components of recruitment and orientation events.
- Train and supervise student employees. May provide functional guidance to support staff.
- Supervise and train professional advisors. Develop and deliver training and professional development, in cooperation with University Advising.
- Present or participate in workshops on academic skills, study skills, and expectations for students.
- Attend required trainings to stay current with evolving academic policies, university procedures, and best practices in academic advising to enhance professional knowledge and skills.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Master’s degree and five years of experience in academic advising or closely related field.

- Organization, problem solving, and decision-making *
- Written and interpersonal communication with the ability to communicate effectively with all components of the university (faculty, staff, and students/families) *
- Training and mentoring *
Maintain confidentiality in sensitive situations
Preferred Qualifications – if applicable- Experience providing academic advising to college/university students.
- Experience using student information systems (e.g., Banner and EAB Navigate 360).
