Location: Southeastern Avalon Peninsula (Ferryland)
Position
Teaching and Learning Assistant (TLA) – Full‑time, Permanent – Topsail Elementary School, Conception Bay South.
Job Summary
The TLA supports classroom teachers in delivering inclusive instruction, developing a supportive learning environment, and collecting student data.
Reporting
Reports to the Principal or designated principal.
Start Date
Effective September 8, 2026.
Duties
Support and assist the classroom teacher with planning responsive teaching and learning.
Gather evidence of student learning and use strategies to reinforce diverse instruction.
Create and maintain a supportive, safe, and inclusive environment.
Engage collaboratively with families and the school community.
Demonstrate professionalism.
Responsibilities
Assist with planning and organizing learning experiences in line with policies and procedures.
Help implement programs and services, including instructional supports.
Assist in assessing, evaluating, reporting and recording student progress.
Collaborate with the classroom teacher to develop supportive educational environments.
Participate as a member of school teams to meet student needs.
Maintain professional working relationships.
Commit to lifelong learning and pursue professional development.
Apply effective interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
Assist students with alternate format materials and operation of specialized assistive technologies.
Minimum Qualifications
Teacher's Certificate Level Two (II) from the Department of Education.
Approved programs for Certificate Level Two: ECE Level 2, Child & Youth Care Worker, Child & Youth Care Worker with Addictions Support, Disability Services & Support, Diploma in Social Services, or 20 university courses (60 credit hours).
Benefits
Annual Teacher Salary Scale and benefits are contained within the NLTA Provincial Collective Agreement.
