Contract Type: Full Time Term; approximately 32.5 hours per week
Monday to Friday: 8:50 AM – 3:15 PM
Duration of Position: August 25, 2026 – June 29, 2027
About the Position
The Colony Educational Assistant, in consultation with the Colony Principal and the Lathom Colony Teacher, will assist with the design of lesson plans for kindergarten to grade three students. Based on these lesson plans, the Colony EA will create student learning activities and manage the classroom environment to facilitate student success.
The broader scope is best suited to a candidate who has education‑related training and experience, works collaboratively while demonstrating initiative and independence, and is organized, flexible, and adaptable to the challenges and changes that may arise throughout the day.
About the School
Lathom Colony School is one of seven colony schools in our Grasslands community. It is located in County of Newell, approximately 50 minutes outside of Brooks, Alberta. Colony schools serve children from kindergarten to Grade 8 and focus on developing English skills for students who typically begin speaking a German dialect.
The student group is close‑knit, encouraging collaboration, independence, and strong relationships among students in a multi‑grade environment.

Job Duties
Plan and deliver instruction based on student learning needs and special needs to foster learning of appropriate knowledge and skills.
Prepare and implement remedial programs for students requiring extra help.
Support students in instruction as well as social and behavioral needs.
Encourage positive interactions between students and between students and staff.
Work closely and collaboratively with the Colony Teacher, Colony Administrator, and German Teacher to identify students’ individual and collective learning needs.
Provide a stimulating learning environment in which each student can experience growth and develop to their potential.
Communicate student progress and meet with parents as required.
Meet with other professionals to discuss individual student needs and progress.
Attend meetings and in‑service training sessions.
Maintain a clean and tidy classroom and classroom materials.
Participate with students, as required, in school activities such as outdoor sports.

Qualifications
High School diploma
Post‑secondary training in education, as an Educational Assistant, or a related profession considered an asset
Two or more years working with children or in an educational setting considered an asset
