Balcarres Community School offers Pre‑K to 12 programming to an enrolment of approximately 260 students. This is a permanent part‑time position that will commence on August 26, 2026.
Role Overview
The School Outreach Liaison is responsible for creating, strengthening, and maintaining linkages between the school, families, and the community. The liaison supports transitions of students into and within the school, liaises with families and First Nation communities and leaders, and bridges cultural differences to ensure all students feel a sense of place, caring, and belonging in the school.
What you will do
Facilitate the relationship between the home and school environment for students and families to encourage strategies to support regular school attendance and positive student outcomes, acting as a communication liaison, and encouraging participation in school activities.
Support staff, student, and family communication by providing outreach supports, including home visits.
Support students and families in finding and accessing academic, emotional, and social supports at the school and outside, such as arranging for mentorship and role‑model opportunities (including mediation and wrap‑around meetings).
Collaborate with the school administrator and First Nation Education Coordinators to build effective working relationships.
Collaborate with school staff to develop, maintain, and publish a schedule of relevant and engaging programs and activities, including cultural and ceremonial events, offered at the school.
Create authentic relationships by attending and actively contributing to community events, including some evenings and weekends.
Perform other duties as may be required or assigned by the School Administrator.
What will make you successful
Diploma or equivalent in a human service‑related field (e.g., Mental Health and Addictions Counselling, Youth Care Worker, Child and Youth Care Counsellor); or no previous experience working as a Community School Coordinator or Family Liaison Worker.
A minimum of three years of experience working with children and youth.
Excellent interpersonal skills to engage with a wide range of client groups and understanding of how to deliver culturally responsive services to a diverse group of students, families, and communities.
Excellent problem‑solving and solution‑focused interaction.
Deep knowledge of Indigenous ancestry, culture, teachings, and traditions.
Excellent communication, time management, and organizational skills.
Ability to manage confidential material and maintain staff and student privacy.
What you can expect
Hourly rate range: $31.70 – $38.26.
100% employer‑paid health benefits plan.
Employer‑matched pension plan.
Hours of work are 20 hours per week on school days, with an exact schedule to be determined. School Outreach Liaisons are not scheduled to work during school vacation periods, including the summer break.
