Overview
Located in the Naskapi Nation of Kawawachikamach, 15 kilometres from Schefferville, Québec, Jimmy Sandy Memorial School (JSMS) is the centerpiece for Education in Kawawachikamach. We welcome Naskapi beneficiaries from all grade levels from Pre-Kindergarten to Secondary 5 (Grade 11), and Adult and Vocational Education. Uniquely, JSMS offers Naskapi immersion to students from Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 2, at which point students begin English instruction and Naskapi becomes a subject.
Teaching in the Naskapi First Nation school in Kawawachikamach is a unique and rewarding experience. Teachers have the opportunity to be creative and to use their skills to support the growth of Naskapi Education. Teachers at JSMS also have access to amazing outdoor adventures and the opportunity to participate in land-based cultural activities alongside their students, team members, and community. A teaching position at JSMS supports the Naskapi Nation’s access to education.

Nature of Work:
The teacher shall provide learning and developmental activities to students and shall participate in the development of student life in the school.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and present courses and provide developmental and cognitive learning activities within the guidelines of the authorized programs;
- Work together with the other teachers and the personnel of the school in order to take the appropriate measures to meet the individual needs of students;
- Organize and supervise student activities;
- Organize and supervise workplace internships;
- Responsible for providing support;
- Responsible for providing remediation;
- Supervise the students for whom he or she is responsible as well as other students in his or her presence;
- Evaluate the performance and progress of students for whom he or she is responsible and report on them to the school administration and to parents according to the system in effect;
- Monitor the late arrivals and absences of his or her students and report them to the school administration according to the system in effect;
- Participate in meetings relating to his or her work;
- Perform other duties usually assigned to teaching personnel.
