Location: Central Newfoundland (Bishops Falls)
Salary Information
Salary will be determined in accordance with the Faculty Collective Agreement, based on the candidate's education and experience.
Duties and Responsibilities
Facilitate learning to students as part of the Business (Accounting) programs at College of the North Atlantic's Corner Brook campus.
Incorporate their own teaching style to existing lesson plans while meeting the learning objectives of the course material.
Work with other faculty members to ensure a coordinated and consistent teaching approach to ensure the planned curriculum for each course is delivered.
Prepare and implement various instructional strategies, techniques, and learning modules using an approved curriculum to achieve specified learning outcomes.
Utilize and advocate for the use of technology to advance teaching and learning.
Establish student performance objectives and evaluation methods.
Administer various assessments.
Meet with students regularly to gauge and evaluate progress.
Set a professional example and communicate effectively at a level appropriate to the ability of students and provide an emotionally safe learning environment that is conducive to learning.
Maintain appropriate classroom discipline following college policies and procedures.
Identify and resolve problem areas in learning.
Provide academic advising to students.
Participate in professional development activities, maintain currency, and strive for excellence in instructional practices and the business profession.
Actively participate in and contribute to accreditation activities to ensure the program is of the highest standard.
Other related duties consistent with providing and maintaining quality student-centered instruction will be required.
Screening Criteria
Bachelor's Degree in Commerce (Accounting) or Bachelor's Degree in Business (equivalencies considered) with an Accounting professional designation.
Recent, relevant professional work experience (6 years' combined education and industry).
B.Ed. (Secondary/Post/Secondary), eligibility for membership in an appropriate professional association, and teaching experience at the post-secondary level (assets).
Assessment Criteria
Knowledge in the subject area of the accounting.
Understanding of classroom management and instructional techniques currently being utilized in a teaching and learning environment.
Ability to communicate effectively.
Organizational and time management skills with the ability to plan, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
Critical thinking and problem-solving skills with an ability to consider and respond appropriately to the needs of students.
Proficiency and/or a willingness to embrace teaching and learning technologies to support the student learning experience.
Ability to build and maintain productive working relationships with other faculty and staff.
Commitment to teaching excellence and to supporting and delivering a positive student learning experience.
Conditions of Offer
When requested by the Employer, a recent and satisfactory Certificate of Conduct must be provided.
Verification of credentials and applicable licenses, certifications, and/or professional memberships as required for the position.
Credentials obtained outside of Canada will require an evaluation to determine their Canadian educational equivalency. This evaluation must support the educational requirements for the position.
