School District #8 (Kootenay Lake) has a vacancy for a dynamic and passionate educator tinel Secondary School in South Slocan, BC. Mt. Sentinel is a Grade 7-12 school, with a current enrolment of 285 students.
Job Description and Requirements: We are looking for an innovative, creative, and flexible teacher who demonstrates a proficient understanding of the renewed BC curriculum, the K–12 Reporting Policy, and School District 8, Kootenay Lake’s 2024–2029 Strategic Plan. The successful applicant will have recent experience teaching Foods and Applied Design, Skills, and Technologies (ADST) in middle and secondary school settings and be comfortable working with students across multiple grade levels.
The successful applicant will be well-versed in assessment practices that support learning, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and the effective integration of technology. They will strive to create engaging, challenging, supportive, and relationship focused learning environments that respond to the diverse strengths and needs of learners while promoting creativity, practical skill development, safety, and independence.

Position
Description:
This is a part-time, job share Foods position working Thursdays and Fridays in collaboration with the Foods teacher on partial leave. The successful applicant will teach Grade 7 and 8 Foods, Foods 9/10, and Foods 11/12, working with students across the middle and secondary years.
The position also includes supporting our school meals program. The successful applicant will work collaboratively with the job share teacher to provide continuity in curriculum, assessment, classroom routines, and programming for students. This position requires a teacher who values collaboration, strong relationships, hands-on learning, and the development of practical skills in a safe and inclusive learning environment.
Educational
Qualifications:
· A valid BC teaching certificate and current membership in the Teacher Regulation Branch
· Bachelor of Teacher Education (middle or secondary preferred) with a major or minor or specialization in Foods Studies or other relevant area of ADST
· Having experience working in the food industry is preferred if there is no major/minor specialization in ADST curriculum.
· Recent demonstrated successful experience teaching Foods 7 – 12 is preferred.
· Recent successful experience teaching in a grade 7 - 12 setting.
· Current Food Safe certificate is preferred.
· Excellent communication, interpersonal and classroom management skills
· Demonstrated ability to use a variety of teaching and assessment strategies
· Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment
· Experience with a variety of learning management systems

Demonstrated ability to plan engaging, hands-on, and developmentally appropriate learning for students across multiple grade levels using backward design, differentiation, and responsive instructional approaches to meet the strengths, needs, interests, and abilities of diverse learners.
Demonstrated ability to create safe, inclusive, and respectful learning environments that foster student engagement, belonging, self-regulation, independence, and responsibility for learning.
Experience collaborating with colleagues and the School-Based Team, including Inclusion Support, Aboriginal Education, Education Assistants, and Counselling, to plan and implement appropriate supports, adaptations, modifications, and differentiation for students with diverse learning and behavioral needs.
Demonstrated ability to establish clear learning intentions aligned with BC curriculum Big Ideas and Curricular Competencies, and to communicate student learning effectively with students and families in accordance with the K–12 Student Reporting Policy.
