South Shore Waldorf School Kindergarten Lead Teacher 2026/2027
Start date: August 2026
We are seeking an Early Childhood Kindergarten teacher for a mixed‑age kindergarten. The ideal candidate has familiarity with Waldorf education and experience and/or training in early childhood settings. A background in Waldorf Teacher Training in Early Childhood Education and Nova Scotia ECE Level 1 or above is an asset. The candidate should be hard‑working, have a positive attitude, excellent communication skills, and possess storytelling and singing skills.
Salary and Benefits1‑year contract with possibility of renewal the following school year. All new employees are subject to a 3‑month probationary period. Salary is $35,000–$40,000, depending on qualifications and years of experience, in line with other Waldorf schools in provinces without government support. Faculty receive tuition remission for all their children, a small health allowance, and mentoring.
Responsibilities- Teach children ages 3½–5 as the Junior Kindergarten Class Teacher
- Classroom workday is from 8:00 am – 3:15 pm Monday‑Friday
- Care for the physical and emotional well‑being of the children and their families
- Foster positive relationships with colleagues, children, and families
- Observe children’s creative play, redirect and inspire as necessary
- Plan and prepare meals daily for kindergarten children; maintain a clean and orderly classroom; assist with gardens
- Teach by example and enjoy outdoor activities in all weather conditions
- Maintain required paperwork, including daily attendance
- Be able to lift and carry a 35–40 lb child when necessary
- Participate in Festival life of the school
- Plan and hold Parent/Teacher meetings
- Shop for groceries and purchase supplies
- Attend weekly faculty meetings Every Thursday from 3:30 – 5:30 pm
- Attend professional development days and Teacher Conferences
- Implement discipline policy as set in the School Handbook
- Commit to ongoing professional development
- Early Childhood Teacher training or experience
- Hold a current First Aid and CPR certificate
- Submit a completed Vulnerable Sector check and Child Abuse Registry check
- Be able to follow Public Health guidelines
The South Shore Waldorf School is located in Blockhouse, Nova Scotia, Canada. Founded in 1996, the school is a member of AWSNA and WECAN and operates on six acres of woodland and meadow. The school community is strong and filled with festivals and community events.
