Fort McMurray Catholic Schools is looking for a full-time Educational Assistant in ECS.
Qualifications
Educational Assistant Certificate or Diploma
SMG (Safe Management Group) training may be required
Requirements
Support students' growth in the areas of cognition, communication, physical and social development
Support and/or implement teacher directed programming
Work collaborative under guidance of teacher, CST and members of a multi-disciplinary team
Complete student or safety documentation, if directed by supervisor
Implement specialist (OT, PT, SLP, etc) strategies to achieve required goals
Implement behaviour management and educational strategies that facilitate student learning
Communicate effectively with students using age appropriate positive reinforcements and/or school specific behaviour strategies
Observe student behaviour with focus on achieving positive behavioural/educational outcomes and mitigate/prevent negative ones
Provide high level of structure to facilitate completion of required learning outcomes
Work and play at student's physical level of their activities
Provide support in use of adaptive and learning technologies using a variety of devices and associated programs, including for speech and non-verbal communication
Medical Procedures including, but not limited to, Catheter, Tube feeding, Feeding and swallowing support, toileting routines or diabetic monitoring may be required
Able to understand, implement and support modified curriculum
Able to work with and support students with Autism or complex medical needs
Physically handle and transfer students when unsafe
Physical ability to lift and move students
Provide school directed indoor and outdoor student supervision
Follow all relevant health and safety requirements as directed by supervisor
Employee is expected to work with behaviours related/associated with conduct, obsessive/compulsive, trauma and stress related, severe chronic depressive, feeding and/or eating disorders etc. Other behaviours related to ADHD, emotional/behavioural, learning and speech & language-related disabilities, etc may be encountered.
The successful candidate will be required to provide a Criminal Reference Check and a Vulnerable Sector Check. FMCSD will contact past and present employers for references. All FMCSD employees are expected to be computer literate; this includes fluency with e-mail, Internet and MS Office.
