Aviation Services is a division of the Department of Natural Resources responsible for providing helicopter support for all provincial government departments and agencies.

About Our Opportunity

Under the general supervision of the Chief Aircraft Maintenance Engineer, carries out daily routine inspections, planned periodic inspections and repairs as well as field repairs to the Province’s helicopter fleet in accordance with the Canadian Aviation Regulations (CAR's), recommended practices and procedures established by aircraft manufacturers, power plant manufacturers and Transport Canada.

Primary Accountabilities

-Carries out airframe, engine and associated system inspections, repairs, and/or modification to department rotary wing aircraft in accordance with the regulations and procedures dictated by Transport Canada Aviation and Department of Natural Resources Aviation Services Maintenance Control and Policy Manual.

-Certify repairs and work that is accomplished in accordance with the procedures established by Transport Canada Aviation, Department of Natural Resources Maintenance Control and Policy Manual and other applicable airworthiness approved agencies.

-Clean and service aircraft; clean and maintain hangar generally, work areas specifically.

-Inspect and certify work carried out by the Aircraft Maintenance Engineer 1’s and 2’s who cannot certify work on their own.

-Carry out independent inspections and random quality assurance checks of work completed by Aircraft Maintenance Engineers on Department of Natural Resources aircraft.

Qualifications and Experience

To be considered for an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer 2, you have:

-An Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) License issued by Transport Canada in the M1 and/or M2 Category

-Successful completion of a Transport Canada approved Aircraft Maintenance training program.

-A valid Nova Scotia Class 5 Driver’s License or equivalent license from another Province.

-Due to the on-call nature of Search and Rescue, the candidate must reside in or relocate to Nova Scotia and be able to respond within 1 hour to Shubenacadie base while on call.

-Must be willing to travel and occasionally travel overnight within or outside of the Province.

To be considered for an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer 3, you have:

-An Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) License issued by Transport Canada in the M1 and/or M2 Category for a minimum of 2 years.

-Have completed a Transport Canada Approved Type Training Course(s) on the Airbus H-125 airframe and Safran Arriel 2 series engine.

-Successful completion of a Transport Canada approved Aircraft Maintenance training program.

-A valid Nova Scotia Class 5 Driver’s License or equivalent license from another Province.

-Due to the on-call nature of Search and Rescue, the candidate must reside in or relocate to Nova Scotia and be able to respond within 1 hour to Shubenacadie base while on call.

-Must be willing to travel and occasionally travel overnight within or outside of the Province.

The following are considered Assets to this position.

-Experience in servicing, maintaining, and inspecting Rotor Wing aircraft.

-Experience working with Win Air or another maintenance tracking software.

-A valid Human Performance in Aviation Maintenance (HPIAM) course

-A valid Emergency First Aid and CPR Certificate.
