Metallurgist

Location: St. Mary's

Job Summary  Create, document, develop and implement procedures required to manufacture products and test processes.
Required

Education and Experience   Metallurgical Engineering Degree or Materials Engineering degree
Diploma from a Canadian university or college
3-5 years manufacturing experience in a related field (preferably in automotive)

Job Responsibilities & Qualifications   Ability to perform manual related tasks (cutting, mounting, polishing test samples, and maintain test equipment)
Basic machining skills
Advanced metallurgical testing knowledge and skills (hardness, strain analysis, tensile testing, yield analysis, elongation)
Proficient in using X-ray equipment and handheld portable XRF analyzers
Solid understanding of microstructure analysis, steel grain structures, heating and cooling curves
Good knowledge of steel compositions and the effects on steel processing in-house and at end customers
Plating thickness measurement and analysis
Understanding of copper and nickel plating processes
Solid understanding of Nylon materials and testing

Experience with stainless steel (304 & 316) cold-rolled steel chemistry and mechanical properties
Ability to measure and understand heat-affected zones from welding
Laser welding experience in thin-gauge metals
Ability to interpret SAE, ASTM and customer-specific standards and apply them to product development and testing
Knowledge of any applicable customer-specific requirements
