Location: Fort Qu'Appelle

Our client is seeking an experienced  Mechanical/Piping Engineer (P.Eng.)  for a  1-year contract opportunity in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta , with the potential for extension. The ideal candidate will have  10–15 years of experience  supporting industrial facilities and capital projects and be available to start in  mid-August or September .

Key Responsibilities

Develop mechanical and piping engineering scopes for plant modifications, brownfield projects, capital projects, and Management of Change (MOC) initiatives.

Perform field assessments, site investigations, and engineering evaluations to define project requirements and develop practical, cost-effective solutions.

Develop engineering design packages through Issued for Review (IFR), Issued for Design (IFD), and Issued for Construction (IFC) stages.

Prepare Engineering Work Packages (EWPs), including technical scope documents, design deliverables, material requisitions, construction work packages, tie-in packages, cost estimates, and execution plans.

Develop and review engineering deliverables, including:

Piping specifications

Line lists

General Arrangement (GA) drawings

Piping isometrics

Mechanical completion packages

Review and provide technical oversight of deliverables prepared by EPC contractors, consultants, fabricators, and vendors.

Perform engineering calculations, assessments, and design reviews related to piping systems, pressure equipment, material selection, stress analysis, fitness-for-service evaluations, and code compliance.

Ensure engineering deliverables comply with applicable codes, regulatory requirements, site standards, and industry best practices.

Participate in constructability reviews, design reviews, field walkdowns, hazard assessments, and multidisciplinary project reviews.

Support procurement activities through technical bid evaluations, vendor document reviews, package reviews, and technical query resolution.

Provide field engineering support during fabrication, installation, tie-ins, construction, commissioning, startup, shutdown, and turnaround activities.

Support quality assurance and inspection activities related to welding, NDE, hydrotesting, material verification, pressure testing, and mechanical completion.

Collaborate closely with Operations, Maintenance, Reliability, Construction, Project Management, and external engineering providers to ensure safe and successful project execution.

Qualifications

Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation required.

10–15 years of Mechanical and Piping Engineering experience within petrochemical, oil & gas, chemical processing, refining, or heavy industrial environments.

Strong experience supporting brownfield projects, capital projects, and MOC initiatives.

Knowledge of pressure equipment, piping systems, materials engineering, stress analysis, and applicable industry codes and standards.

Demonstrated experience supporting engineering projects from concept through construction, commissioning, and startup.

Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
