About Island Gold District: Alamos Gold’s Island Gold District will become one of the largest and lowest-cost gold mines in Canada. With the two mines within the district, Island Gold and Magino employ over 900 team members who work in the underground and open pit operations and are located in northern Ontario, just east of the town of Dubreuilville, 83 kilometres northeast of Wawa.

Role Overview:

Reporting to the Chief Accountant, the Senior Accountant is responsible for supporting operational decision-making, optimizing the use of financial systems, coordinating transaction processing, and financial reporting activities.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Be a safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety protocols and procedures
  • Lead the month end close process with the preparation and recording of assets, liabilities, revenue, and expense entries by compiling and analyzing account information.
  • Provide financial data and perform cost analyses to find opportunities, efficiencies, and waste which may include trend and variance analysis
  • Explain and mentor department heads on their financial performance versus plans
  • Lead in preparation of budgets and forecasts
  • Review and validate financial reports and respond to financial queries
  • Assist in the development of the departments Standard Policies and Procedures
  • Support the annual audit process through liaison with external and internal auditors
  • Ad-hoc tasks as required
  • Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications and

    Experience:

  • Graduate BBA/ BCOMM in Accounting with CPA designation
  • Minimum 5-7 years’ experience in operational accounting or finance within a mining environment
  • Excellent digital literacy, particularly in the Microsoft Office Suite®:
    Outlook, Word, and Excel. ERP systems experience, SAP, is an asset
  • The successful candidate for this role is detail oriented with strong organizational skills, with the ability to break down and streamline sophisticated processes.   • The schedule for this position is based at one of the two office locations working on a 7-7 rotation schedule or 4/3 rotation.
