Overview
Resident Geologist – Minerals and Petroleum Division, Government of Nunavut.
The Minerals and Petroleum Division is building a sustainable resource exploration and development sector across Nunavut. The Resident Geologist advises government and communities, promotes a sustainable mineral industry, supports community capacity, and interprets statutes such as the Nunavut Mining Regulations, Nunavut Land Use Plan, Nunavut Agreement, and related legislation.
Responsibilities
Provide technical advice and guidance to government and Nunavut communities on mineral exploration and development.
Interpret and apply the Nunavut Mining Regulations, Nunavut Land Use Plan, Nunavut Agreement, and other relevant policies and legislation.
Support the development of community capacity to benefit from mineral resource exploration and development.
Participate in the Minerals Management Team and collaborate with partners to achieve sustainable mineral industry goals.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Geological Engineering, Geological Sciences, or a related field.
Minimum of two (2) years of related work experience.
Registration as a Professional Geoscientist is considered an asset.
Strong knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, and Inuktut, and experience working in a northern cross‑cultural environment are considered assets.
Fluency in any of Nunavut’s official languages (Inuktut, English, French) is preferred; multilingualism is an asset.
