ResponsibilitiesThe Forester – Forest Management and Engagement Specialist supports the Regional Forester in the development, implementation and evaluation of forest management plans for both industrial‑led projects and provincially managed areas. The specialist leads community engagement for Indigenous and non‑Indigenous communities related to forest management projects. The position may occasionally support Forestry and Peatlands Branch Consultation projects, with a primary focus on forest management and engagement.
QualificationsEssential:
- Post‑secondary education in Forestry, Natural Resource Management, or an equivalent combination of related education and relevant work experience.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with stakeholder groups and in a team environment.
- Experience planning and implementing timber management programs, including inspecting timber operations.
- Experience working with Indigenous communities in operational, engagement or consultation capacities.
- Experience coaching, mentoring and training staff.
- Strong problem‑solving, analytical and decision‑making skills.
- Knowledge of forestry legislation and policy.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time‑management skills, including the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize workloads to meet strict deadlines.
Desired:
- Experience planning, performing, supervising and inspecting silvicultural activities.
- Experience preparing and managing budgets.
- Experience working with ArcGIS and GPS applications.
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
- Must be physically able and willing to travel to remote locations and spend extended periods of time by air, water, off‑road vehicles, and on foot.
- Must be physically capable of performing required duties including prolonged sitting and standing, walking outdoors, exposure to elements, operating field equipment, etc.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Manitoba Class 5 Driver’s License.
- Must possess and maintain a Manitoba Scaling license.
- Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
