Duties
The Forest Management and Engagement Specialist Forester supports the Regional Forester in developing, implementing and evaluating forest management plans for industrial projects and provincially managed areas. This position leads community engagement for Indigenous and non‑Indigenous communities related to forest management projects. It may occasionally support Forestry and Peatlands Branch consultation projects, but the primary focus is on forest management and engagement.
Qualifications
Essential
Post‑secondary education in Forestry, Natural Resource Management or an equivalent combination of related education and relevant work experience may be considered.
Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to work effectively with stakeholder groups and in a team environment.
Experience planning and implementing timber management programs, including inspecting timber operations.
Experience working with Indigenous communities in operational, engagement or consultation capacities.
Experience coaching, mentoring and training staff.
Strong problem‑solving, analytical and decision‑making skills.
Knowledge of forestry legislation and policy.
Strong written communication skills.
Strong verbal communication skills.
Strong organizational and time‑management skills, including the ability to work on several projects simultaneously and prioritize workloads to meet strict deadlines.
Desired
Experience planning, performing, supervising and inspecting silvicultural activities.
Experience preparing and managing budgets.
Experience working with ArcGIS and GPS applications, including experience preparing related data.
Conditions of Employment
Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
Must be physically able and willing to travel to remote locations with the province for extended periods of time by air, water, off‑road vehicles and on foot.
Must be physically capable of performing all required duties including sitting, standing and prolonged walking outdoors, exposure to elements, walking over uneven surfaces, and loading/unloading field equipment such as off‑road vehicles and boats.
Must possess and maintain a valid Manitoba Class 5 Driver's License.
Must possess and maintain a Manitoba Scaling license.
Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
