About the Role
The Policy Manager is responsible to oversee policy development referred to the Policy department. They are accountable for identifying issues or policy areas to explore, conducting policy information research, providing analysis of proposed policies. They assess and evaluate existing policy, while proposing and writing new draft policies to address identified problems.

Key

Duties & Responsibilities

Lead policy development identifying emerging areas for policy development and conducting research to report on policy options.

Identify, gather and interpret data, statistics, archival material, briefing notes, options from other jurisdictions, proceedings of the HOA and other CHN bodies, etc. to prepare reports on policy options.

Set up and maintain effective information and policy data bases.

Work with staff, committees and elected officials as assigned, ensuring technical support for research and policy development.

Prepare materials and support public consultation processes on policy options/development.

Provide policy support as requested, working collaboratively with departments formulating, establishing and communicating sound draft policies, procedures and regulations.

Supervise departmental staff to coordinate work, provide direction and workflow monitoring.

Develop and prepare materials, reports, presentations, and other materials related to policy development for a range of audiences.

Qualifications & Skills

Some post secondary research training is an asset, or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Experience working with Haida or other First Nations in governance or policy development.

Excellent written and verbal communication and research skills.

Excellent interpersonal skills including experience working collaboratively with individuals and groups in a multidisciplinary setting.

Strong attention to detail.

Proficient with computers and data analysis and management.

Experience working with First Nations and knowledge of First Nations communities and culture will be an asset.

Preference will be given to Haida candidates as per Section 41 of the Human Rights Code.

What We Offer

Hourly rate: $39.18 - $44.05 based on experience.

Full-time (35–40 hrs/week) with paid time off, including an additional 2 week office closure during the winter break.
