The SRRB is mandated to address the objectives of the  Sahtú Dene and Métis Comprehensive Land Claim Agreement  related to wildlife, habitat, and harvesting. We have adopted an innovative cross-cultural and decolonizing approach to resource management and are committed to supporting the training and development of Sahtú beneficiaries.

The position is an  one-year term appointment , with the possibility of renewal.

Salary:  $106,158 to $126,809 annually, plus benefits and Northern Allowance.

The advertised salary reflects the rate for a fully qualified candidate. Applicants who do not possess all of the required qualifications may be considered for an underfill appointment at a salary commensurate with their qualifications and experience.

Job Description

Position Overview
The Sahtú Renewable Resources Board (SRRB) is seeking an experienced and collaborative Planner to support the implementation of the SRRB’s workplan regarding Hı̨dó Gogha Sę̨́nę́gots’ı̨́ɂá (Planning for the Future - PFF). Working within the Hı̨dó Gogha Sę̨́nę́gots’ı̨́ɂá (Planning for the Future - PFF) framework, the Planner will implement work plans related to community-led planning processes, community and stakeholder engagement, communications, training activities, and event delivery.

The successful candidate will design and facilitate community engagement, support communities to create plans, and coordinate implementation frameworks. The successful candidate will support Indigenous-led conservation, and contribute to the development of long-term stewardship strategies across the Sahtú.

Reporting to the Manager of Community Conservation Planning and working closely with SRRB staff, Renewable Resources Councils, community partners, and external organizations, the Planner will play a key role in advancing collaborative and evidence-based wildlife conservation and stewardship.

Support community-led development of community plans, including engagement, training, and evaluation.

Provide technical support for PFF implementation, including support for research, facilitation, monitoring, and stewardship activities.

Support a variety of regional planning processes including caribou range planning activities within the Sahtú

Facilitate meetings, workshops, training sessions, and engagement activities.

Travel to workshops, engagement sessions, and Public Listening Sessions held in Sahtú communities and assist with event coordination and coordination, including participant support, meeting logistics, and documentation.

Travel to Sahtú Communities to assist communities in preparing submissions and participating effectively in the Public Listening Process.

Communications and Reporting

Develop clear and accessible communication materials for community members, partners, and the public.

Assist with the development of user-friendly tools, including planning guides, plain language literature reviews, map resources and other materials for supporting PFF processes.

Assist with preparing public notices and communication materials.

Assist with preparing proposals, reports, planning documents, correspondence, and public communication materials related to PFF.

Program Development

Assist in developing a program and funding framework to support a sustainable PFF approach in the Sahtú.

Foster respectful and effective relationships with Indigenous government, Renewable Resources Councils, Elders, harvesters, youth and community organizations.

Other duties as directed from time to time.

Qualifications – Required

A master’s degree in a field relevant to the position (such as planning, natural resource management, Indigenous studies, environmental management, geography, public policy, or related discipline), or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Experience working collaboratively with Indigenous governments, communities, or organizations.
