As a skilled communicator with a sound grasp of natural resource management, you will use your in-depth knowledge of Indigenous culture and issues to work with Indigenous people, non-Indigenous communities and others on a variety of resource management issues. About the job
In this position, you will:

Build cooperative and effective relationships with local Indigenous communities, internal and external staff, other ministries, proponents and private industry

Provide technical advice on the Crown's Duty to Consult, plan and lead Indigenous programs and initiatives

Promote understanding, co-operation and participation in the ministry's sustainable resource management programs with a focus on lands and resource allocation with communities and other users

Act as the ministry representative or advisor in resource and issue negotiations with Indigenous communities and associations

Prepare budget submissions and explore funding options as well as authorize and track expenditures for Indigenous and non-Indigenous programs and initiatives within communities

Assist in the development and delivery of community outreach initiatives to non-Indigenous communities

Mandatory requirements

You possess a valid class G driver's license or equivalent, as recognized by the Province of Ontario

Requirement to occasionally work outside of regular working hours.

Specialized Knowledge

knowledge of Indigenous history, culture and related social, political and economic issues and opportunities in order to provide advice and conduct informed consultations and engagement with Indigenous communities

understanding of community development principles, as well as goals of the ministry and government to promote and assist in the planning of development and capacity-building opportunities and provide advice on these matters

knowledge of resource management principles, practices, legislation and policies and procedures to provide strategic advice

Leadership and Relationship Management Skills

use leadership skills to work with a wide range of stakeholders with differing interests and cultures to promote understanding of ministry policies and programs and promote cooperative relationships

use conflict resolution and facilitation skills to negotiate and build consensus on resource management issues

develop and maintain good relationships with stakeholders and Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities

use advisory and consultative skills to offer technical guidance on the scope, scale, and strategic application of the Crown's Duty to Consult

Communication Skills

effective oral and written communication skills in order to represent the ministry, provide recommendations, direction, respond to inquiries and draft items such as briefing notes, reports, presentations and correspondence

strong negotiation skills to facilitate the resolution of complex issues and competing interests with diverse stakeholders

decision-making and political acuity to elevate issues to appropriate decision-makers with analysis, options, and recommendations for different courses of action

Project Management

Skills:

the ability to lead, manage and coordinate projects, define scope, establish approaches and plans, monitor progress, identify issues, and to determine priorities and schedules

the ability to direct and coordinate the work of program/project staff and external consultants

Research and Analytical Skills
You can conduct research and analyze and synthesize complex information/data to identify issues, assess risks, recommend solutions and respond to requests and concerns on a wide range of issues and situations
