The City of Orillia is currently seeking a highly motivated individual to fill the position of Municipal Law Enforcement Officer I  for a 7-month contract as a temporary employee to fill a maternity leave. The City does not use artificial intelligence in the hiring process. All job applications are reviewed personally by the appropriate Department/Division.

Reporting to the Manager of By-law Enforcement Services or designate, the Municipal Law Enforcement Officer I is responsible for consistent enforcement of municipal by-laws, with a focus on parking enforcement. Responsibilities will also include general by-law enforcement and obtaining compliance with municipal by-law by conducting inspections, gathering evidence, preparing notice of contravention letters, educating the public on the City’s various by-laws, and if necessary, initiating legal action including laying charges.

This role will receive and respond to inquiries from the public and provide information and assistance in a courteous, friendly, and efficient manner to promote a high standard of public relations at all times.

Candidates must possess a post-secondary degree in a related field (e.g., law enforcement/investigative studies or related discipline), have thorough working knowledge of municipal by-laws, provincial legislation, licensing, and enforcement procedures, and possesses excellent verbal and written communication skills. This position requires excellent computer skills using MS Office Suite, together with other application software such as Great Plains and Ticket Processing Software.

The City of Orillia offers a competitive wage and registration with the OMERS pension plan. The hourly wage for this position is $27.49 to $29.06 based on a 35-hour work week.
