Summary

The Traditional Team Lead is a dedicated leader, with program development and leadership skills. They are responsible for providing knowledge and support on traditional Aboriginal values, practices and spirituality to foster wholistic health to the community members. Ensures the program meets the targets, including data collection, report completion and quality assurance initiatives.

Job Duties

maintain a collaborative work ethic, within organization and with external partners

actively participate in a multi-disciplinary team that contributes toward strengthening the care for clients and their families

maintain competency

develop and provide input to policies, procedures and program initiatives/enhancements

work in collaboration with the Executive Director to identify and set up training opportunities to support ongoing cultural learning needs

work with the team to develop and provide communication/education both within the organization and in the communities

ensure development and submission of monthly schedules

evaluate and enhance program development through audits, quality improvement initiatives and monitoring

organizing and coordinating operation tasks to ensure team productivity

managing budgets and resources effectively

provide task supervision

commit to professional development as needed

conduct performance reviews and provide training and mentoring

participate in hiring process making decisions on personnel recruitment

complete other duties as assigned

Requirements

Mandatory

Minimum three-year college diploma in social services or related field

Previous experience working in the delivery of traditional programming

Previous experience in a health care setting

Previous leadership experience, minimum of 3 years

Previous participation in program development, including policies and data collection

Develop educational content

Ability to provide public speaking engagements

Clear Vulnerable Sector Police criminal record check

Valid driver’s license, clear driver’s record and dependable transportation

Preferred

Previous experience within a supervisory role

Post-secondary education within business administration

Work experience with Anishinabek organizations or communities, an asset

Knowledge

Strong knowledge of Aboriginal culture and history

Strong knowledge of Aboriginal teachings related to medicines

Strong knowledge of traditional healing ceremonies

Knowledge of First Nation communities of Manitoulin Island

Knowledge of the cultural services available on the First Nations with the Manitoulin Island catchment area

Skills

Skilled in interpersonal relations

Strong team building, decision making and leadership skills

Provides constructive input to advocate for clients and program improvements

Demonstrated ability to prioritize, plan and be detail oriented

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Proficiency in Microsoft computer applications

Ability:

to build team dynamics and facilitate learning environment

demonstrated understanding and sensitivity to the Anishinabek culture

Work Conditions

Occasional long-distance travel required

Frequent periods of typing while sitting at a computer

Frequent sitting required

Frequent interruptions within office setting

Given the traditional practices of the Anishinabek, from time to time, exposure to wood smoke and the burning of sacred medicines, including tobacco, sweet grass, sage or cedar, may occur within the work setting.
