Overview  Passionate about safety and risk management? Help create a safe and successful festival experience for thousands as our Showtime Safety & Compliance Facilitator. This full-time, temporary position works from June 22 to July 31 on the festival site near Salmo, BC.
The Showtime Safety and Compliance Facilitator helps oversee health, safety, and environmental (HSE) programs at Shambhala Music Festival, ensuring a safe work environment throughout the festival’s planning, execution, and teardown phases. This role is responsible for implementing and monitoring compliance with safety protocols to uphold the festival’s high safety standards and align with industry best practices. The facilitator proactively identifies and mitigates risks before and during the event, fostering a strong safety culture while protecting the well-being of crew, artists, and guests.

Outside of festival operations, this role also serves as the Advanced First Aid representative, providing first aid support during pre and post-festival periods.

Roles and Responsibilities

Conduct comprehensive risk assessments across all festival operations to identify potential hazards in a large outdoor festival environment and implement control measures to mitigate risks, ensuring all health and safety protocols are in place and up to date.

Monitor daily operations for compliance, ensuring teams follow safe work practices. This includes inspections of festival grounds, work areas, and infrastructure to ensure compliance with WorkSafeBC regulations, OHS best practices, and internal SMF policies and promptly address any non-compliance or unsafe conditions by coordinating corrective actions.

Investigate incidents, near misses, and hazards, documenting findings and implementing corrective actions.

Ensure all festival staff and contractors adhere to established safety protocols, including PPE requirements, emergency procedures, and safe work practices.

Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the festival’s Safety Plan.

Lead safety orientations and training sessions for crew and contractors, fostering a strong safety culture.

Collaborate with emergency response teams, medical staff, and security to ensure a coordinated approach to incident management.

Maintain compliance records for inspections, incidents, and safety activities, ensuring timely reporting when required.

Identify and mitigate risks by recommending practical solutions to improve safety.

Work closely with all festival departments to integrate safety considerations into all aspects of festival planning and execution.

Develop, implement, and continuously improve safety policies in collaboration with leadership, ensuring compliance with industry best practices and regulations.

Review and update plans to address emerging risks, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements.

Serve as the Advanced First Aid representative outside of festival operations, providing first aid support pre- and post-festival.

Deliver a post-show report and join post-event debriefs to evaluate outcomes and refine future safety strategies.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Advanced First Aid Certification, as well as relevant first-aid experience, are required.

Diploma or degree in Occupational Health and Safety (OHS), Environmental Health, Event Management, or a related field, and/or CSO, NCSO, or equivalent safety certification.

At least 1 year of experience in a safety role within festivals, events, live entertainment, or construction/industrial sites.

Strong knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation, including WorkSafeBC regulations and industry best practices.

Proficiency in reporting, training presentations, and compliance tracking software.

Excellent communication and leadership skills to engage diverse teams.

Experience in risk assessment, incident investigation, and emergency response coordination.

Problem-solving mindset with the capacity to remain calm and decisive under pressure.
