Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for a  Care Aide  to join the team at Bella Coola General Hospital in Bella Coola, BC. Apply today to join our team!

As a Care Aide at Vancouver Coastal Health you will make your impact by:

Working under the functional direction of a Registered Nurse or other designate and in cooperation with interdisciplinary team members to assist in the delivery of client care.

Following established care plans to provide personal care; bathe, groom, dress, assist with meals and oral hygiene and perform nursing care duties as applicable.

Responding to call bells/alarms.

Observing and monitoring clients’ progress, symptoms and behavioural changes and reporting/recording significant observations.

Utilizing mechanical aides such as specialty beds, wheelchairs and stretchers to transport clients and providing assistance with lifting and/or transferring of clients following established lifting/safety techniques.

Maintaining a clean and safe environment for clients and staff.

Performing other related duties as assigned.

ABOUT BELLA COOLA, BC:

Bella Coola sits in a mountain valley at the head of the North Bentinck Channel, 500 km north of Vancouver, with a population of about 1800 people. The community is at the end of a long, truly magnificent fjord, on the mainland coast of British Columbia. Bella Coola General Hospital has 10 acute bed, 5 residential beds and a 3 bed emergency department open 24/7, along with a laboratory, diagnostic imaging services, Telehealth, Mental Health, Public Health, Home & Community Support Services.

Also within the hospital are a medical clinic and a pharmacy.

Qualifications
Education & Experience

Grade 10 (including English 10).

Successful graduation from a recognized Health Care Assistant Program or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Eligible for registration with the BC Care Aide & Community Health Worker Registry.

Knowledge & Abilities

Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and proficiently both verbally and in writing.

Ability to deal with others effectively and respectfully.

Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.

Ability to organize work.

Ability to operate related equipment (such as Patient Care Information Systems).
