Location: La Ronge

We are looking for a compassionate, caring, patient person, with an upbeat attitude and strong interpersonal and organizational skills. The Parent Support Worker will assist the Maternal Child Health Program by improving health outcomes for pregnant women and families with infants and young children, by focusing on culture, role-modeling and healthy teachings by linking community resources. About the facility: LLRIBHS promotes health in our communities for the wellbeing of all members. We provide accessible, high quality health services and programs. Together with others, we work to build capacity and educate as we address both acute needs and the determinants of health.

About the position: Working 7.5 – hour shifts (Overtime may be required). S/he will provide in-home support such as basic infant care, infant stimulation, fostering healthy child development, self-care and coping as a parent, offering hands-on approach to learning and supportive mentoring as a peer. Advocate, refer and act as a liaison for families. Work closely with Health Care Professionals and working with the Public Health Nursing & Health Team to provide and deliver programs and services.

Duties:

  • In-home support, utilizing a strength-based model with families who have children between the ages of 0-6 years;
  • Teach individuals and group about health promotion topics;
  • Assist the Community Health Nurse to provide and deliver programs and services;
  • Advocate, refer and act as a liaison for families;
  • Work closely with other Health Care Professionals;
  • planning and delivering workshops, community education events;
  • Developing of appropriate awareness materials; administering the nutrition coupon program;
  • Qualifications:

  • Early Childhood Education Certificate (Combination of Education and experience may be considered);
  • Growing Great Kids (GGK) Curriculum training is an asset or willing to obtain;
  • Certified First Aide & CPR and Safe Food Handling Certificate required or willing to obtain;
  • Personal experience as a parent or caregiver of infants &/or young children, is an asset;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills;
  • Able to work independently, be self-directed and demonstrate organizational skills;
  • The ability to speak/understand Cree a definite asset;
  • Experience working with First Nations Communities is an asset;
  • Must possess a valid
    Class 5 Driver’s License;
