Job Description
In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health) patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.
The Public Health Clinical Resource Nurse participates in developing, implementing, and evaluating Population Public Health initiatives, programs, and services, using a culturally, trauma-informed lens. Utilizing knowledge and clinical expertise in the assigned clinical area, functions as a clinical resource, providing practice guidance, consultation and in-service to Population & Public Health staff regarding the care and treatment of clients/ within the specialty area.
Supervises staff and assigns work as required. May provide direct client care. Responsible for supporting education and practice support in group and/or individual settings including in-person and virtual.
Assesses current and future needs, continuous quality improvement, gathers input for use in development of overall standards, facilitates consensus in the determination of standards, policies, and guidelines, and guides the implementation of standards, policies, and guidelines for the designated programming within Island Health.
Travel may be a requirement of this position. Transportation arrangements must meet the operational requirements of Island Health in accordance with the service assignment and may require the use of a personal vehicle.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Training And Experience Graduation from a recognized nursing program with public health content. Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN registrant. Minimum of five (5) years recent, related experience in Public Health Nursing, including 1 year of education and/or leadership experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered. Valid BC Driver's License.

Demonstrated knowledge of the current theories, technologies and practices in Population Public Health programs and/or specific program areas within Population Public Health.
Demonstrated working knowledge of relational and reflective practice.
Fosters a culturally safe and trauma informed approach.
Applies comprehensive knowledge and skill in educational theory and practice including competency and curriculum development.
Applies superior written communication abilities and proficient computer skills in the design and composition of creative, high quality, interactive learning materials.
Uses research, technology and related best practices and an understanding of health care disciplines and networking abilities to support and enhance public health practices.
Demonstrates use of Microsoft programs such as Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, Teams.
Ability to organize workload and set priorities.
Ability to work independently.
Ability to plan, organize and evaluate client care within Population Public Health Programs. Fosters creativity and innovation in strategic education planning and in the development of knowledge translation through teaching and learning strategies, applying adult learning principles.
Priority access will be given to Indigenous (First Nations, Métis and/or Inuit) candidates.
