Reporting directly to the Wellness Prevention Supervisor, this position provides client-centered support to individuals accessing mental health and addiction services. This Mental Health Navigator focuses on helping individuals identify their needs, navigate available services, reduce barriers to care, and improve overall wellbeing through culturally safe, trauma-informed, and strengths-based approaches. The role supports clients and their families in navigating and understanding their rights within the mental health and addictions systems, including courts and health systems.
It requires a comprehensive understanding of Saskatchewan Mental Health legislation and the Compassionate Intervention Act.
Qualifications and Experience
Minimum Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychiatric Nursing, or a comparable discipline with related experience.
At least two (2) years of experience working with marginalized populations affected by addictions in a health-related field.
Knowledge of Chronic Disease Management and behaviour change models, addictions, harm reduction theory, teaching/learning principles, and motivational interviewing.
Demonstrated counselling theory and skills, with the ability to develop therapeutic relationships and support clients in meeting their goals.
Knowledge of community resources and programming supportive of this client population.
Demonstrated performance of appropriate documentation, record-keeping, and data collection functions.
Understanding of traditional Indigenous values, beliefs, and healing approaches, and a willingness to learn about and accept First Nations cultures.
Self-directed with minimal supervision required.
Ability to demonstrate agency values in daily work with BRT6HC First Nations communities, clients, co‑workers, and partnering agencies.
Successful criminal record with vulnerable sector check.
