Description
The primary accountabilities of this position include ensuring current infection control best practices are being met; ensuring select sentinel and significant health care infections, events and trends are promptly identified and addressed; providing and analyzing data to maintain current standards contributing to quality improvement; consulting and liaising with community health agencies; as well as consulting and collaborating with stakeholders. Other key functions include committee participation with internal and external stakeholders, facilitating change through interpretation and application of standards, and providing and developing new clinical practice recommendations for Infection Control.

The ICP is responsible for complying with all professional licensing regulatory bodies and Covenant Health policies and procedures. The ICP provides leadership and direction for IPC initiatives throughout the organization, as well as orientations, in-service programs, and clinical consultation to individual staff development initiatives in Infection Prevention and Control. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the HSAA Collective Agreement.

Required Qualifications
Baccalaureate degree in Nursing or other health related science. Current and active registration with an appropriate Alberta professional regulatory college (e.g., CRNA, CMLTA, or another Alberta recognized regulatory body). Completion of basic Infection Prevention and Control training course, or commitment to complete this in first year of practice. Three (3) years of related experience in health care either acute care and/or continuing care setting.

Heart and Stroke Foundation Basic Life Support (BLS).

Required Qualifications
Following two years of practice, obtain and maintain Certification in Infection Prevention and Control (CIC). Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills are essential. Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment, tact, professionalism, and diplomacy in a variety of situations. Strong relationship building, facilitation, and communication skills with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders and influence practice change. Proven ability to adapt to evolving priorities, navigate complex environments, and support organizational change with resilience and professionalism.

Demonstrated knowledge of patient care practices across healthcare settings. Ability to work independently while fostering collaborative partnerships and maintaining effective working relationships with interdisciplinary teams.

Preferred Qualifications
A combination of experience and proficiency in two of the following areas will be considered:
Patient Care Practice, Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, or Epidemiology and Biostatistics. Knowledge of microbiology, epidemiological principles, statistical methods, and adult education is an asset. Knowledge of acute care, maternity/labour & delivery, and continuing care is an asset. Voluntary participation in position related professional member groups (e.g., IPAC Canada) is preferred.
