Company Overview
Emergency Medical Care Inc. (EMC) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Medavie Health Services (MHS) that manages and operates ground ambulance, air medical transport and medical communications operations in Nova Scotia through a performance‑based contract with the provincial government’s Emergency Health Services (EHS) Operations division and the Department of Health and Wellness. EMC also operates Tele Health/811 medical communications for Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island for the Ministry of Health.

Scope of Work
We access all communities in Nova Scotia in a timely and efficient manner with our fleet of more than 180 ambulances and support vehicles operating out of 60+ stations. We respond to 165,000+ calls annually across the province, which are actively managed through the EHS Operations Medical Communications Centre, the hub of all emergency (911) and non‑emergency (hospital transfers) medical calls.

The EHS Operations Life Flight program provides even greater accessibility by responding to patients on scene or through inter‑facility transports by our critical care team via helicopter, fixed‑wing, or ground ambulance. In addition, paramedics in Nova Scotia participate in various programs both urban and rural such as community‑based paramedic programs, collaborative emergency centres, and emergency preparedness and special operations, to name a few.

Duties and Responsibilities

Operate all system vehicles in accordance with all policies of EMC and EHS.

Maintain and ensure proper documentation for all EHS supply chain, materials management and facility inspection aspects of the position as directed by the Manager, Logistics & Materials Management.

Ensure all paramedic supply Base/Stations including designated hospitals are kept stocked as per established inventory supply levels.

Inspect paramedic Base/Stations for noted deficiencies and complete light facility repairs as directed.

Comply with all existing EMC System Support Safe Work Practices (SWP) as well as all other Company policies and procedures.

Complete required paramedic Base/Station facilities repairs which includes but not limited to station cleaning, painting, yard maintenance, lighting repairs and general maintenance requirements.

Ensure the Logistics system vehicles are maintained, stocked and in a ready state in accordance to EMC System Support Policy and Procedures at all times.

Conduct logistic vehicle cleaning required to the vehicle interior or exterior in accordance with proper decontamination policies.

Conduct on‑going cleanliness of the Logistic Central Stock facility during scheduled shifts.

Practice good hygiene and demonstrate socially accepted skills and graces when interacting with vendors, colleagues, paramedics and any member of the general public.

Perform other such similar, comparable or related duties as may be required or assigned.

Takes instruction and direction operationally from the Manager, Logistics & Materials Management as well as the Logistics Supervisor and or Team Lead.

May be required to periodically back‑fill the Fleet System Support Technician (SST), as required.

Education / Experience

Minimum Grade 12

Valid Nova Scotia Class 4 Driver’s License in good standing or a willingness to obtain and maintain. Class 5 will be accepted upon hire.

Possesses WHIMIS, First Aid, Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG), Fall Arrest/Protection certification, or a willingness to obtain and maintain.

Knowledge & Skills

Effective oral and written communication skills.

Displays good decision‑making skills and takes initiative.

Physical Requirements

Potential exposure to contaminated items. Irregular work schedules possibly shift work and overtime as needed.

Operation of a vehicle for extended hours.

Ability to lift upwards of 50lbs.
