Location: Whitby Region (Gormley)
Recreation Worker Age Care empowers residents to live their lives to the fullest by prioritizing their health and well‑being. In this role, the Recreation Worker plans, develops, and runs a variety of meaningful recreation and leisure pursuits that promote wellbeing, purpose, creativity, community, lifelong learning, and fun.
Responsibilities Plan, develop, and facilitate daily recreation and leisure activities both in the home and in the community using holistic resident information and choices.
Create and maintain engaging spaces that support meaningful resident activity and participation.
Communicate effectively with residents, families, volunteers, community groups, and agencies.
Observe, report, and document changes in residents’ ability to participate, updating plans of care as appropriate.
Support all departments in fostering resident engagement and participation.
Model leadership by leading programs that maximize residents’ skills and abilities.
Participate in ongoing evaluation of the recreation program and related quality improvement processes.
Qualifications Prior experience working with seniors, preferably in a long‑term care setting.
Post‑secondary diploma or degree program in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, or a related field, or currently enrolled in such a program with intent to complete within three years of hire.
Or a post‑secondary degree or diploma in a health‑care related field with demonstrated skills, knowledge, and experience in providing recreation and leisure services in a health‑care setting, including planning, developing, and facilitating meaningful activities, assessment, care planning, documentation, therapeutic programming techniques, and implementation of recreation principles.
Ability to support others in fostering a culture of resident engagement.
Salary $23.67 – $25.34 per hour, based on qualifications and experience.
