In addition to a competitive rate of pay, EHS currently has a Northern Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $6,300. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.

Based out of the High Level Hub, this position supports service delivery across High Level, Rainbow Lake, La Crete, and Fort Vermilion. Staff have the opportunity to choose shifts at any of these sites based on availability.

Description
As an Emergency Medical Responder (EMR), you will assess emergency scenes and patients and may transport ill or injured patients from emergency scenes and between facilities. This includes operating ambulances or other modes of transportation, providing simple treatments, and completing required documentation, including patient care reports. You will assist with ensuring that ambulances or other transport vehicles, including non-emergent transport (NET) units, are properly stocked and equipped in accordance with established standards.

The working environment for an EMR is demanding and includes exposure to heat, cold, rain, snow, wind, moving traffic, and industrial and agricultural equipment. You will be required to travel in all weather conditions and to remote locations (e.g., backcountry), with exposure to hazardous and graphic scenes and direct exposure to bodily fluids. The EMR role is physically demanding. You must be able to endure frequent lifting and carrying of up to 105 lbs while transporting and transferring patients, supplies, and equipment.

You must be able to endure frequent, simultaneous kneeling and trunk flexion for extended periods. Additionally, you must stand and sit for extended periods, bend, twist, side-carry up to 20 lbs in each hand, and assume awkward positions.

Required Qualifications
Non-restricted registration in good standing with the Alberta College of Paramedics (ACOP) as an Emergency Medical Responder (EMR). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) CPR certification. Must hold, or be eligible to obtain, a valid Class 4 Alberta Operator's Licence (or equivalent), along with a five (5)-year driver abstract dated within six (6) months prior to commencing work, with no more than six (6) demerits.

Proof of successful completion of the Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, verified by a certificate from Lifemark, is required for all applicants who do not currently hold a clinical position (including VESST, Clinical Educator, EMR, PCP, ACP, and Community Paramedic roles). The F.A.R.E. test must be completed within six (6) months of the application date. Verification of results may be conducted through Lifemark.

Preference is given to those with previous EMS experience in a metro, suburban, rural, or interfacility environment and in other areas of Health Care and Public Safety. Completion of additional post-secondary programs is considered an asset. Applicants must provide proof of program completion for any post-secondary education or training at the time of application for it to be considered during the selection process.
