The File Hills Qu'Appelle Tribal Council (FHQTC) is a dynamic and progressive organization that provides a range of programs and health services which serve eleven First Nations throughout Southern Saskatchewan within the Treaty Four Territory. The position will work as part of the Miko-Mahikan "Red Wolf" Outreach Team, located in Fort Qu'Appelle, SK.
The Health Educator is an integral part of the FHQ Health Services Program and works under the supervision of the Miko-Mahikan Team Lead to assist in implementing the goals of FHQTC Health Services. This position will be responsible for working with the Team and communities to encompass a variety of initiatives that will include prevention focused activities, harm reduction strategies, HIV/HCV, opioid use disorder, and implement strategies of traditional practices of tobacco use.
Working within a harm reduction and rights-based philosophy, this position will assist people to achieve their wellness goals while informed by the truth and reconciliation and calls to action.
- Provide information and teachings to individuals regarding harm reduction, HIV/HCV, opiate use disorder, commercial tobacco cessation, prevention and education
- Coordinate and conduct workshop, training, and other activities requested by FHQTC member First Nations, FHQTC Programs, and ANHH
- Two-year diploma in health or education, and two years' experience working in a health care setting
- Exceptional interpersonal and public relations skills
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills
- Ability to plan and deliver education and training programs
- Ability to work in a team setting and be self-motivated
- Demonstrated knowledge and ability to work within First Nations Traditional and Spiritual Institutes.
- Ability to provide trauma-informed and culturally responsive care.
- Must possess a valid driver's license and transportation.
- Current CPIC and Vulnerable Sector Check.
Hours of Work:
Monday to Friday 8:30 am to 4:30 pm (7.5 hrs./day). Flexibility may be required due to operational requirements.
Rate of Pay:
$61,786 to $69,106
