Work OverviewThe Weeneebayko Area Health Authority (WAHA) is looking for an experienced professional to fill the key role of Regional Mental Health Clinician.
Who You Are- Experience in assessment of clients with mental health and substance use concerns.
- Direct service experience in delivery of mental health services.
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
- Working knowledge of Mental Health Act and related legislation, mental health assessments, general counselling principles and interview techniques, crisis intervention, concurrent disorders, motivational interviewing, de‑escalation techniques, and community resources and social services utilisation.
- Experience working with First Nations people.
- Provide culturally and linguistically appropriate mental health services to the population within WAHA’s catchment area.
- Provide counselling specific to client needs.
- Maintain counselling case load.
- Process referrals and determine urgency of each referral.
- Perform comprehensive psychosocial assessments for patients presenting with psychiatric symptoms that include suicidal ideation, psychosis, confusion, including where substance abuse/dependence is a precipitating or compounding factor.
- Provide crisis intervention service for patients experiencing situational crises related to problems coping with chronic and serious mental illness, chemical dependency, social environment, housing, finance and legal problems.
- Develop treatment plans in consultation with clients that reflect their individual needs.
- Implement and follow through with treatment plans based upon client needs.
- Diploma in social service work or a related field (required).
- Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or a related field (preferred).
- Registration in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers or College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario.
- Experience in assessment of clients with mental health and substance use concerns.
- Effectively communicates both verbally and in writing.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Willingness to travel as required by employer.
- Valid G licence.
- Defined benefit pension plan (HOOPP).

Salary: $46.20 – $50.09 per hour
