Reporting to: Director of Human Resources

Under the direction of the Director of Human Resources, the Senior Human Resources Generalist serves as senior HR practitioner and a trusted advisor to leadership, with a primary focus on employee and labour relations. The role provides expert guidance that supports organizational effectiveness and employee well-being by working in alignment with the Lil’wat Nation’s values , cultural teaching and community priorities.

The position manages complex employee relations matters and supports performance management, workplace investigations, recruitment, accommodations and return to work process, compensation and classification, HRIS, , organisational change and other HR initiatives. As a member of HR team, this role supports the HR director in mentoring HR team members and partners with leaders across the organization to deliver effective, people-centered HR services.

Deliverables and Expectations:
Employee Relations
  • Serve as the lead resource for complex employee relations matters under the direction of the Director of HR.
  • Manage employee complaints, workplace conflict, performance concerns, conduct issues, and other sensitive employee matters, and elevate significant risks and recommended disciplinary or employment actions to the Director of Human Resources.
  • Advise and coach managers on employee relations, corrective action, performance management, and workplace best practices.
  • Conduct workplace investigations, including planning, interviews, evidence review, report writing, and recommendations, in consultation with the Director of HR where appropriate
  • Apply a trauma-informed, culturally safe, and relationship-based approach to employee support and conflict resolution.
  • Identify workplace risks and recommend appropriate solutions while maintaining accurate and legally defensible documentation.
Performance Management
  • Lead and support performance management processes across the organization.
  • Guide managers on performance expectations, documentation, performance improvement plans, and corrective action.
  • Review performance-related documentation for consistency, compliance, and best practice.
  • Support leaders in addressing complex employee performance issues.
Leave Management, Accommodation and Return to Work
  • Provide guidance regarding sick leave, medical leave, bereavement leave, and other employee leaves in accordance with applicable policies and legislation.
  • Coordinate workplace accommodation, disability-management, modified-duty, and return-to-work processes.
  • Review appropriate medical or functional information and develop documented accommodation or return-to-work plans while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Monitor complex cases and elevate significant operational, legal, or accommodation risks to the Director of Human Resources.
Compensation and Classification
  • Coordinate job-description reviews and updates with managers.
  • Support position evaluation, salary-grid placement, compensation administration, and related recommendations.
  • Prepare compensation, status-change, and employment-amendment documentation following the required approvals.
  • Assist with compensation-review implementation and maintenance of accurate classification records.
Recruitment & Talent Acquisition
  • Support full-cycle recruitment, including developing job postings, candidate sourcing, screening, interviews, reference checks, offers, and employment contracts.
  • Work with managers on recruitment strategies, workforce planning, onboarding, internal transfers, and offboarding.
  • Participate in candidate assessments and provide hiring recommendations as required.
